It’s my pleasure to write about my place of birth, “Thiruppakkoliyur” aka “Avinashi“. The word Avinashi means indestructible. This is the place which lies in the Tiruppur district (Earlier associated with Coimbatore).This is the junction for three major cities of Tamilnadu – Tiruppur, Coimbatore and Erode.
Around 4, 00,000 people are living in Avinashi. People here are works for power-looms, garment industries, textile mills and agriculture.
Avinashi is popular for its shiva temple (Avinashi lingeswarar with Karunamibigai Amman) constructed by Sundarapandiya. It is said that Avinashi is half Kaashi (Varanasi), means one who gets blessings from here is equal to they get in Kaashi.
Car festival which celebrated in the Tamil month Sitirai is very famous here. Special thing about the car here is that this is the second larger one in south India, where Thiruvarur temple’s car is the first largest one. The car was fully made with wood. Since it was fired in 90’s, a new car was built with iron wheels.
One more association with this temple is Sundaramurthy nayanar (Saiva saint).Once he crossing the streets of Avinashi, he heard two kinds of sound from opposite houses, one house had joyful sound and another had sorrowful sound. So he asked about this to the people nearby. They told that guys of same age from those homes were gone to bath in the tank. While they were taking bath, a crocodile came and ate one of the guy.Now “upanayanam” is happening in the home where their their son is alive and the other one was sorrowful because of the death of their son.
By hearing this Sundaramurthy nayanar went to the tank which was empty, and started singing soulfully.Because of his soulful singing, the tank was filled, crocodile came from that and gave eight years old grown child back.
For entertainment , four cinema theatres namely Varanasi multiplex, Sri Karunambiga, Chitralaya and Chindhamani, and a children park are there .
R.C.Hospital situated in Avinashi is most famous for skin treatments. People from various parts of south India are coming here to take treatment
Nethaji Apparel Park which is composite of 20 to 30 garment industries is running nearby Avinashi. Because of good bus and Rail transportation, these industries were great growing.
Avinashi is not only the place for entertainment and business; It is the place for spirituality too. In addition with Shiva temple, It has many other temples like Thiru murugan temple, Narasimma perumal temple, Mondiperumal temple, etc.,
As a hole, the place I born is giving room to joy, to play, to live, to celebrate , to feel – what not… It gives everything for my successful life.
